Default Possible fuel pump failure

Wow, my last fuel pump in my 535 was installed around 50k or so and I now have exactly 110.200. I was leaving on a trip today and about 2 miles from the house the chime and the half eng power light illuminated with car in limp mode and on idrive screen it said possible fuel pump failure. I stopped and got gas restarted and all was back to normal. Yeah, so took her back home and drove my truck. Ok, what may really suck is, the warranty is 10 yrs or 110.000 on mine. WTF, I now have 200 miles over the max and its Sunday. Well at least I called the dealer and left a message stating I am out of town and can't make it in until Monday afternoon and the car has just a few miles under the 110.000. These chumps better cover this repair. When I get home tomorrow I'll check the codes and see which ones are stored. Sometimes the low pressure fuel sensor will give you the same symtoms. I actually had both issues before.

Same thing happened to me and my warranty is up in 0ne week. You don't want to own an E60 out of warranty
Looking to move into a 535d with 6 years warranty, which should bring my blood pressure back to normal.
Good luck.

Well I have to say it's been a great car. With 110 k only two hpfp, water pump fees sensor, tranny sleeve. Cars been out of warranty sinc 50 k. I would have preferred the pump to fail at 120. 110.200 is just to f'n close!!!

The extended warranty on the hpfp is 10/120000, so you should be okay if the hpfp is the issue.

so bmw still doesnt have a good fix for the hpfp? are they a different design for the latest cars?
all the fuel pump and injector and turbo issues i hear about, scare me away from the bmw turbo engines, which is pretty much all of them now :/

Tony, the warranty is 10yrs/120k miles. You should be good if it's the hpfp.

Well lets say maybe not a a permanent fix, but perhaps a improved fix. Former pumps were failing sometimes 2-3 per year back when they launched this car. THere were changes to the pumps, actually several. I'm under the impression that my last pump since lasting nearly 50k was one from the latest improved ones. I also 'think' this is mostly on the n54 eng. I know a couple of my F10 535 never had one fail and my current 535d I'm driving is also ok. But none of these cars have the N54...

When I got home today I checked the codes and the two that would be related was 29F1 and 2AAE. I also had 2F9E this one is related to the oil sensor. I did change the oil this weekend after the add one qt msg appeared. I am not sure if this message is related or a sign that the sensor is failing...

The hpfp have been updated a couple of times, the newest ones for n54 have a much lower failure rate. When the n55 was launched, they used the same pump as the n54. However, for MY 2012 (I think), they went to a piston type (previous pump was rotary) pump and have an extremely low failure rate.

Yeah, I knew they were different, just didn't know what was different about the new pumps. Thanks for the peace of mind. For some reason I was thinking 110 on mileage. Well call is at the dealer so we will see. A few years ago I had the low pressure sensor fail and this gave the same symptom. The SA also mentioned this but also said since it was changed already most likely its the pump. When I was looking around on the net last night one of the two codes I got pointed to what I thought was a transfer fuel pump in inside the fuel tank causing low fuel pressure/volume. Oh well, back out on a trip today so I'll update once I hear back from SA as to what is the problem.
