My Ride: My Bimmer's info is in my sig, so I'll tell you about my garage toy. It's a 1997 Porsche Boxster. The car is black on black and I have replaced every single thing on the car (interior, exterior, drivetrain, suspension) except for the sheet metal and the convertible top (both of which will be next I guess). I love my Pcar more than any other car I have ever owned and will probably keep it for the rest of my life.
Porsche. There is no substitute.
Poplar interior pieces needed
My E60 2007 has an automatic shift knob with the aluminum on it and the top edge facing the dashboard is really sharp and has a burr on it. I'm thinking of replacing it with a poplar wood one that matches my interior.
I also want to replace the aluminum side pieces on my non-sports version of my steering wheel.
Couple of questions:
1) What would I look at on my VIN to see if I have light or dark poplar?
2) Where can I locate these parts more reasonably priced than the stealership's parts counter? I'm happy to use parts off a salvage car if they're in good shape.

You could try this first to determine the code number for your trim:
http://www.rubmw.ru/vincode/eng/
Then here to find the parts and approximate price:
RealOEM.com Online BMW Parts Catalog
Bits of trim don't seem to be ridiculously expensive. You might be surprised.
