I think saying "his camera was probably broken" and the tone replies to my post made it pretty obvious you guys were trying to say i was FOS. There is no need to be a jackass. I am just looking for some FRIENDLY conversation and perhaps, if you know anything about how your cars actually work, some information.

Although I agree BMW are superior machines to say Chevys, I find that most BMW guys dont know jack about their cars. At least the Chevy guys know why their tires spin when they hit the peddle on the right.

I don't the the LSx swap would be a good idea. It just seems so unnatural to do something like that to a BMW. I'd keep your 530i the way it is, performance wise and buy an S13 240SX and swap an LS1 in there. Then you can have both

Ok....now that I have been indoctrinated into the E60 Forum.....do you guys know anything about the engine management of the E60?

I wish I could erase those bird pics now, but dont see how I can modify an old post.

Hey Mike, no worries... I dont think you know the background in the past there has been a guy making up screen names claiming a bunch of stuff and never proved anything... always trying to stir the pot. Couple here obviously thought you were either him or similar... But hey now that you showed us... thats awesome! lets talk how much power the thing puts out.

Oh BTW the BMW engines drive the front wheels.

First of all you have to realize not all comments are directed at you. Unfortunately, we have had some members in the past that were full of it. A former member that had a 530 with a supposed supercharger(unable to produce pictures). Hence me teasing Westcoast550 about not having a camera, we were referring to a member that was banned for bad behavior. Many members joke around with one another. No one was unfriendly towards you Mike. You need to slow your roll...insulting every member of this forum is no way to start out on this board. Baptist school or not, giving us the finger is not cool Anyway...Good Luck! We look forward to more posts by you, hopefully there will be more or less fingers next time.

Eh, drive the front wheels? What'ch U talking bout?

If anyone else is interested, the superchargers are available at www.esstuning.com. They are coming out with a TS3 kit (450 HP) for the 530i, but the cost would exceed what a LS7 swap would cost.

I don't think there is anything not natural about a Chevy V8 in a BMW. Zora Duntov, who worked on the Gen I SBC design team, was raised and educated in Berlin. His legacy lives on in all SBC. Here is his bio, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zora_Arkus-Duntov.

I am a hot rodder by nature, but don't have the funds yet to spend 100 big ones on an M5.

Here is what this BMW guy knows.........putting a Chevy motor in an E60, get it working well, then boosting the output to 500+ hp would cost more than a used or even new M5.
It might be better/cheapr to get a 535/335 tt engine, rebulid it using stronger internals, then boosting it to 20-28 psi with new turbos & front mounted intercooler....but of course, you knew that.

Well, you have a good point. The ESS TS3 kit for 3.0L will provide almost 14 psi, but would require a new fuel system, new pistons, reworked heads, header, and cat. This means complete NEW BMW engine. Finding Chevy or Ford builders is a piece of cake, but BMW? Since RD Sport asks $31,000 for their modified 4.4 L V8, I can not image a built 3.0L would be cheap. I figure the engine will cost like $20k+, $1.5k for the header, $2.5k for the cat (RD sport is only source), plus another $10k to ESS for TS3 w/fuel system. This should be good for 450hp, but there will be nothing left. Also, it would be cheaper to just get a 545/550 and add a supercharger.

However, a complete new LS3 engine (430hp/424lb-ft) with fuel system costs $6k, http://www.sdparts.com/catalog/lsgeniiigen...ateEngines.aspx. I am not sure if that includes the computer, but say the computer and engine wiring is another $2k. A new 6 speed manual transmission will be less than $3k.

Basically, the big cost in putting an LSx engine in the BMW is the integration (mechanical and electrical). Since E60 was offered with a V8 of similar external dimensions, I would assume the physical mounting could be acheived with a set of custom motor mounts, headers, and oil pan. However, if the gages could not be made to work, there would not be any point.

It seems like such an outrageous challenge. Eventhough it is not likely I will actually do such a swap, I will learn somethings about how the E60 and LSx engines work.
