I bought a fiat grande punto for my wife two months ago, in black. The paint finish is really orange peel. If you look at your reflection in it, its like a mosaic. My black 520 is mirror like. At the moment I cant fault the finish.

I noted in the E60 drivers info pack there is a leaflet specifically on the care of the paint and trim....

cheers

you could take it apart, tape it together as a sheet, and use it as a car cover - atleast 0.5 mtrs square of roof the birds cant crap on

30,000 miles and not so much as a single rock chip on my car.

I take care of it very well, granted.

from what i've read all newer cars paint is horrible. i've got chips on my new 550i and my 04 prosche C2. it is all over any of the forums about the paint. due to new enviormental requirements they are definitely not as durable as they used to be. and i get the impression that it is only going to get worse.

Indeed the paint is horrible. It has the orange effect, it chips easily, and dark colours with swirlmarks is a nightmare...really! Next time i'm going alpine white

that why I spend $100us every 3 months to get it polish buy the pros. so that it will be like new from show room
but I have stone chips on the paint and this will happen to any car even a nice Enzo ferrari.

I deliberately only look at the front of my car from a distance of about 5 meters. I had a close look up once and almost burst into tears! There are paint chips all over the front and insect marks. What pinguhk wrote above is the way forward IMHO. I will be doing the same after winter - straight of to the pros for the full treatment on the paint.

I thought it was down to the colour of the paint I went for, not the quality. So going for silver grey or something similar next time won't help by the sounds of it.

Cheers

Have no experience with the E60.. but my E39 was a poor paint job. Just leaving a mud spec on it in the sun and trying to prime it off after a few hours really messes up the paint job, despite all precautions and microfibre towels.
