Hi All
i have a Black 07 e60 from new, 30,000 miles, becuase its my personal car and not a company car, I drive it really carefully and try to stay clear of the rear of trucks etc.
my car has some horrific stone chips to the spoiler and bumper and when polished they look awfull.
(my previous car was a Volvo S60, AND IT LOOKED BETTER AFTER 4YEARS AND 150, 000 MILES)
anyway, I took the car back to the main dealer where I purchased the car and asked for their comments.
the bodyshop manager commented that this is a common occourance on BMW's and we spend all week spraying Bumper, bonnet and wings, he even gave me a quote for a respray off the top of his head!!!
I asked him to mail me to that effect but he refused saying that its more than his job is worth.
has anybody else experienced this poor quailty paint

I got one after a nasty stone chip and have been very happy.
I don't have one on my dark colored SUV, which has painted bumpers and I have a lot of small chips on the bumper and hood. They are very apparent when you wax the car.

Its not the BMW has poor paint quality per-say, as mentioned above already, your front end of the your car or any car for that matter is the most exposed part to the road elements. You WILL get rock chips, there is NO WAY to avoid this, unless of course you clear bra the front end. This is small fry, focusing on all the small stuff, it'll kill if you keep on it.
My Z is a good example, it was delivered from AZ and I drive in the canyons at least twice a month following closely behind my friend, and let me tell you, its rock chips galore. At first I bothered me a lot, but now I see it as battle scars

Newer BMW and Porsche's I've noticed have the cheapest crappiest paint I've ever seen on a car. Merc's are much better. Lexus is marginally ok...

BMW paint is generally poor IMHO both in terms of finish and durability! It's a real shame because it let's the car's down.
