It's interesting and quite surprising my car would have a thermostat problem, as it's such a new car (LCI 2008, 6 months old with 7600 miles on the clock). If it is then i'm assuming that there was a bad batch?
The reason i bought such a new car was my previous purchases all 10+ old cost me alot to keep right. So thinking that a new car wouldn't need as much attention :) If i had known i'd be having this issue and dealing with uncooperative dealer i would probably not have bought it. |

Only problem is that I am getting about 19mpg (avg. fuel consumption counter on car says 19.2) :o It's driven mainly during the rush hour but even so 19mpg is shocking (I had better mileage from my petrol 4ltr Jeep Cherokee) Surely this can't be right for a diesel?!? Could it be that the driving characteristics of the previous owner are still in the cars memory / ECU? Can anyone shed some light? Thanks |

I have a 58 e60 530D M Sport, with 7000 on teh clock when i bought it (a ew days ago). First i didn't notice the mpg but then i saw that it was an appaling 20mpg!! I was shocked! My old e39 528 which had done 200,000 miles did better at 22mpg. I took a trip recently from Glasgow to the Lake District. Which only gave me around 34.4 MPG on cruise, with the climate control on (A/C was on but not using it for cold air only for climate control). Last night i thought i'll switch off the A/C and i saw the mpg jump from 20 to around 34! But it didn't last for long as i drove to work (about a mile in start/stop traffic) it dropped down to around 19/20 *sigh. Going to see the dealer after work today to ask him to have a look. When i spoke to the dealers (person who sold me the car) he was surprised at such a low mpg, and asked me to reset, which i did as per my work commute (sub 20mpg). It's a new car about 6 months old and only 7000 on the clock. I love the car and it's my 3rd bmw, but i bought the diesal for the economy if i wanted it at sub 25 i would have bought the petrol or M3/M5. I'll keep you posted as to what the dealer says. It will get better my LCI 530d started out giving me about 24mpg on my 7 mile work drive, although it was driven pretty heavy and on a fair amount of dual carriageway with trafic light stops(very little traffic though). My first really long drive from london to cheshire returned about 34mpg then as well. Now its got a little more mileage on it at 16k the fuel figures are alot better with 40mpg seen while driving at 90mph and mid to high 40s if you drop to 75ish. On my work journey it now returns over 31mpg on the same journey and seems to be getting better all the time. |
