18 - 19 mpg on a 525i...something is really wrong, I have a 2006 525i and I average 30.2 mpg, mostly city driving.

After 4 mo. in the garage the tire air pressure is probably suspect...that can drop your fuel economy significantly if it's low on even one tire

Brake rotor or caliper corrosion? Parking brake not fully releasing after storage?

IMHO, really dont consider this to be poor.... Almost the same I'm making... With a mixed driving and somewhat (when its possible) aggressive style.
You also have to remember that the computer will show the data based on your style of driving... Have you felt the gas comsumption poor when actually driving it... Or just by reading the computer? You might as well reset the data and drive the car for a while to see if you get the same value....
Anyhow... Remember we are not driving 1.3L toyotas

Maybe changing the fuel filter and cleaning the MAF will help.

I hope this helps - last year my '04 525i with 80k on the odo was getting about 14-15 mpg city, 24-25 highway. I swapped the plugs around January and now get 19-20 mpg city, 30+ highway.

Well. firstly, 4 months in the garage? I'd say there's a bad gas issue (not that kind of gas). I would change the spark plugs then use Chevron with Techron fuel system cleaner on the next 1-2 tanks, you should be fine after that. I changed my plugs with ~75k miles and it immediately improved mpg by 3 mpg. My best mpg was with my old plugs, I got 35mpg (almost all hwy) from LA to Vegas Our cars can be AMAZING if maintained properly
