I need some help trying to find out if anybody else is having poor AM radio reception. I have the premium radio, Logic 7 with HD. HD does not work here in Germany but AM radio should work. The quality of reception on my new car is poor. I listen to Armed Forces Radio but can barely hear it even when I am 10 miles from the antenna! FM is just fine it is the AM band that is not working well. My car is in for this particular problem. The service chief says they hooked my car up so Munich could check out the values while it was receiving and playing on AM. Their response was it was just fine. My 15 year old Volov gets better reception than my new 550! (On AM) I asked them to listen to other 5 series cars on the lot (None had the HD) all were far superior to my reception. They gave me a Mini to drive while my car was in for this problem. The Mini has better reception than mine, then I noticed the antenna was was not installed only the little nub where you would attach the ariel was there. I placed my finger on this spot and wow did that improve (naturally) it.

So, any help or does anybody have a Technical Bulletine where this has been addressed?

i've seen some people actual put an antenna on the cars to get am reception. all my bmw have had bad am reception. my dodge truck pulls in station 100+ miles away where the bmw losses the signal in 20.

I need somebody that has access to the TSB's to copy and send them to me. The Head of Service said they do not have access to these. He even called Munich while I was standing there talked with a techinical rep and asked for the TSB's that I will list below. The only thing this guy said was he would try to contact his counter part in the US today to see if they will share it with him. So, any body that can get TSB 654506 Poor radio reception, 653606, 651206 and 652506 actual pages with what they are suppose to do will greatly help. I know there are some of our members that have access to this. I r e a l l y appreciate your help. The Head of Service was so suprised that this information was possible to have in the States.

Thank you again for any help you folks can offer. I told the Head of Service if it was out there this group would be able to get it.

I said it in my PM to you and I am saying it here. THANK YOU!!!! The Head of Service was amazed at the information. He could not believe that this group could get that kind of detailed information let alone that fast. I thank you again. Now he has to convince BMW Munich he knows what to do to fix it. Kind of like the right and left hand not knowing what the other is doing.

I will let you and the Forum know what happens. I could not believe thier comments and faces upon seeing the documentation. Such a closed business society. (them not us :-) ) Now that they have the information they have to submit to Muncih and see if they are authorized to fix it under Warranty. To lock step for me! All in all in comparison this car is a dream to the 545 Montag Auto I had before. I mentioned how closed they are about somethings. I asked for a printout of the software etc. on the car. They told me they can not give it to me because it is against BMW policy. To strange!!! Oh well, 3 or 4 more years and we can retire back to the States. 21 years as a DoD Civilian so far. By the way Rudy, I have a sister that lives in Wexford. The next time we are in the States and we are visiting I will PM to see if we can get together. I would like to shake your hand in thanks.
