I am sure that this topic has been addressed here many times, but i need inputs from owners of 2008 550 with SAT tranny that jerks badly when coming to a stop. I have been pursing my dealer to come up with a cure for the ""jerking" problem with my car for a while now. The best they came up was that they searched all of BMW's data base for this know problem and came up with nothing. If any of you 550 owners experienced similar problems and was able to find a cure, please...please post it here or email it to me. My dealer is very interested in reading these and hope to come up with a solution. Thanks for all of your help and hope that this issue will be resolved.

I have a 2008 550 w/ the SAT and do get an occasional hard downshift when coming to a stop. Only happens when driving in DS or DS w/ Sport button pressed though. Reminds me of the "slam" issue my old 545 Steptronic had with a harsh down shift from 2nd to 1st. That was solved with a software update. My experience with the 550 has been too sporadic to bring in to the dealer, but it is there...

Have you tried to do a search on here. I know this issue has been brought up quite a bit in the past. Can't really remember if there ever was a fixed. For some reason I thought I remember a certain software update that solved it but I could be wrong.

I have an issue with a jerky 2-1 downshift, but only in DS mode. I doubt there is a fix for that since there's quite a jump from 2-1.
When the car was brand new, I recall a bit of a jerk in D. But after driving in various modes, D seems fine. How many miles are on your car? Try driving a while in city traffic in sport mode and manual modes. See if D is better after that.

You may have read my complaints some time ago about jerky downshifting and an inability to come to a smooth stop. In short, I am waiting for a reported software update to retroactively remove the comfort stop function. With regards to the jerky downshifts, my SA (and their master tech) said it was normal behavior. The problem occurs in D, but certainly with more regularity in DS and/or Sport mode. I love my car, but the problems it has when trying to stop/slow down make it the most frustrating automobile I have ever owned. Disappointing to say the least from a 70K+ vehicle.

My car has 2400 miles, it jerks in all of the tranny setting, but is even worse in sports mode and when AC is running. By the way I am up in the Rockies, not sure if being 7000 ft. above sea level makes a difference. thanks for input.

I agree totally, a $70k plus auto should not be having this type of tranny. I can only hope that the next generation of 5er will have a much smoother tranny. I tend to keep my car about 3 years then a new one. If the new ones are as bad with the tranny, time to jump ship. But I still love the way the 550i handles and performs. thanks for input...I will collect all of these and send them to my SA.

Would the 25 second transmission fix help??
I would certainly try it!

not a 550i, but i had a problem with my 545i. when my gears shifted sometimes it would just slam into gear. they reprogramed my transmission and the problem went away. they told me that if this problem persist they will change the transmission for me.
