On pictures here I saw most of your cars had a bar behind the kidneys across the radiator. I didn't think mine had that. Went out to investigate (as you do) and noticed mine has plastic flaps covering the radiator. It looks like the wind pushes them open when driving.
Does anybody else have these? What would the purpose be? (Yes I know, the car isn't that clean but it's not monday yet) |

curious, my 545 (U.S. spec) doesn't have those flaps. Could it be something related to the deisel engine?

Hello!
I think that is standard on the E60 diesel. We have it on our to. If you have the engine on and have been driving you can't open the "flaps" with your hands. It helps the diesel motor getting warm quickly ;) Here in Sweden some people are driving with a plate in the front grill in the winter so the engine gets warm faster = it uses less fuel... So when you start you engine and it is cold, the flaps are closed, and when the engine is normaly warm the flaps open and close to let air get in to cool it down.. // Simon |
I have them on my 545.

I guess it's a diesel and Swedish thing then!

I guess so..

They flapper ( ? ) every time I close the hood.
Maybe it?s a cold climate thing? Would fit Sweden, for sure! :D |
I have the flaps. Very hot weather around here
