It's not a good idea to mix tire brands. What's the motivation to do it?

My Ride: 2006 525Xi, premium package, premium sound, steptronic, bi-xenon adaptive lights, PDC, rear sun shade, rear heating, cold weather package.
one is max-performance summer
and one is ulta-high performance all-season
I don't know if you can mix those.
I like them both. Pilot Sport came with my Audi A4's sports package,
and last October I changed to PZero Nero M+S.

Since I don't drive very fast so I was wondering if I can have F/R mix tires.

[/quote]If your rears wear out so fast, then you are driving harder (faster) than you think you are. And you surely drive on the highway...so then you are driving fast, and you want tire characteristics of all 4 tires to be the same, so you have balanced performance. What if you need to swerve to avoid something while going fast on a highway? If you want to have longer lasting tires on the rear, put them up front as well. Not worth the risk. I'd say go with the PS2--they're great tires.

My Ride: On Order:
2006 525i
Alpine White
Auburn Interior
Premium Pkg
Sport Pkg
Cold Weather Pkg
Xenons
Sunshades
Sat Radio
Navigation
I understand this being a different concept to many, but let's think about this with an open mind for a second. The rear wheels do have a different function than the front. And the front wheels don't "know" that the rear wheels are different. As long as the wheels can perform, then I don't understand how this will adversely effect the ride (Non track). Can anyone think of a situation where you would want different tires?

Understood. Thanks guys.
I will probably go with Pzero M+S all around then. I like PS2 but PS2 275/35/18 is kind of expensive.
Thanks

For what it's worth, I did exactly that:
245/40-18 front
275/35-18 rear
...with Pirelli PZero Nero M+S. I have about 2000 miles on the tires now. I absolutely *love* them, and for the price, they're a bargain.

not a good idea to mix tires. period.
there are many other factors which needs to be considered unless you have the time/patience to change them each and everytime you drive.
vehicle load
wheel balance and alienment
driving habit
temperature
humidity
pressure
brake point
incline, decline, curves and straights
traffic condition
surface condition (paved, off road)
weather
the factory recommeded is the rule to follow as they average out all the variables, unless you burn all your tires within a week, but that is another story.
in a 'perfect' world all tires should be slick, ie. no treads what so ever.
