for engine performance u can go to Hamann
u will get 19hp for some 1000 euros
u can also increase displacement but it costs....
a cheaper and easier way would be as others said a good air filter and a good aftermarket exhaust system(Hamann again)

Dear 530i_msport,

You're currently driving a turbo Audi. They are easily spoild with chips.

I do not doubt your expert knowledge in tuning car engines
but only a fool will tune a new 530i, a car with no turbo, for normal driving
with some small 15 hp updates.

The only real tuning would need a compressor for the 3 litre BMW engine.
That has been done, for some + 50 hp and torgue.

Remember that a V8 540i does not cost that much more.

i have that audi because of my job
it was not me who wanted to increase performance on his new 530 though
toddk asked if anyone knew how to increase the performance and all i tried to do was to help him a bit by telling him what i know

although i agree with you that tuning the car a week after u get it is not the best thing u can do
and i guess that he allready has a 530 so i dont think that he wants to sell his 530 which he got some time ago to buy a 540

And since the only 540 sold in the US was the E39 he would have to get a 550i.

But I do have a nice E39 540i/6 for sale with low miles.

Do not get me wrong

But the best way to increase the performance of an 530i is to sell it
and buy a 540i or 550i or...

The fact is that BMW's are already tuned, (258) 265 hp of an 3 litre engine
without a turbo or compressor is a world class act - for a standard.
The torgue at 300 Nm at 2500 rpm is incredible!

So putting some money into some performance parts is not only a big vaste
but a really supid act.
The car will never work perfectly, the quarantee is gone and it looses the resale value...

Just trying to give in my 2 cents....

Very true, and I agree with you, but it doesn't hurt to gain another 15hp to enhance the already exciting driving experience, right? 15hp is not going to hurt the motor.

This is probably what I might do, keep my current XI, and get an M6 then do some crazy things to it.

ok agree
i said it
tuning is never as reliable as oem stuff
the cars are tested for years with their parts so changing some of them or modifying them can never be good but ity is not that bad too as ''2manycars'' said
also agree that a 550 or 540 are in a different category as they are v8s.
didnt get u wrong ..dont worry
we all share the same passion for a car and thats why sometimes we can not agree on something

Whatever people say there's no reasonable way to upgrade the performance of a gas BMW.

You might gain some 10-15 hp and the same in torgue, but it's not sensible.

The diesels with Turbos is another story...

exactly !!!
if there would be a way Hamman or the other major players would be offering one already because it would sell like a cake.
and basicaly by physics, there is no way to improve much unless major work on the engine itself
