Well, since we've starting talking about a little street-racing...

I held my own against a C5 vette convertible yesterday. Seeing as he's got at least as much, and probably more power, more torque, more displacement, and about 2/3 the weight, I thought that was pretty respectable. It wasn't a standing start thing, but a rolling start after we had both made left turns onto a long straight.

At the first stoplight, he motioned for me to roll down my window and acknowledged that he was shocked I could keep up with him.

Not bad for a 2-ton sedan.

All it took to set this guy off was seeing the E60 pull up behind him.
Has anyone else had similar reactions from other sports car owners?

While driving around my wife's hometown of Augsburg, Germany during my ED visit, many young kids driving tricked out Hondas, Nissans, Madzas, and Opels tried racing me at every traffic light. Most of the times, I would pull away from these guys effortlessly without exceeding 4500 RPM's.

I really love my 545i.

Also, I plan to install the Dinan S1 performance package and Stage II suspension upgrades when they become available.

P.S. If anyone is offended by my avatar let me know, I will remove it promtly.

Cheers,

JDN,

I've heard that BMW is very conservative with their horsepower ratings. How much horsepower do you estimate the 545i actually has?

Not only are BMW conservative with their HP ratings, I read somewhere that their manufacturing tolerances are such that any given engine could be between -1% and +10% of the rated HP/torque. That means that our 545's could have as much as 350+ hp, if we're lucky enough to get a +10% motor. I'd be very curious to get a good sample of cars on a dyno to see what the actual numbers are.

An explanation of an auto seemingly being quicker that a stick is that if you test the same car on two different days on two different stretches of road you could get a big time difference.

I'm really not that experienced, but I never, never doubted the power of the 540. I often would floor the 540 in Dallas for a couple of gears entering traffic, etc. The 545 doesn't need flooring to do the same stuff. The 545 is absolutely awsome, DSC or no DSC. There are many street surfaces where I let up because of wheel spin. After reading mrbelk, I just might put mine on the dyno the next time the local club has a Dyno Day.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the info, where can I get my car dyno'd? Can this be done at any bmw performance shop?

Thanks in advance,

Miller
