The black paint is peeling that coats the plastic panel for the window controls on the driver's door and also the black plastic steering wheel trim. It seems a little early for this sort of wear. My dealer seems to think I caused it by using some sort of cleaning solution, but I don't recall using anything that would result in this paint damage. Has anyone else had this happen and if so, what have you done about it? Thanks!

Its happened on all BMWs I've seen, and the dealer won't replace it for you. Just have to live with it.

Take a look at the following:
http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=18619

My bet is that it'll be a warranty item in the USA -- unless abuse is evident...

From looking at the posts on this subject, this problem seems to happen in places where the climate is on the warmer side. It's also possible that there was a defect in the materials BMW used on early-build cars.

I wonder if we're going to hear more and more about this from people with early-build cars living in warmer areas of the world?

Had no peeling from my e60 2004. I also just change the steering wheel to silver carbon fiber so I will not get this peeling anymore

very happy now

You'd better of changing your trim to CF, too.

What the f**k

I read about the same problem with the E90 inside door handles.
Someone at e90post said there was a Bulletin about the problem.

It is a scandal if BMW do not replace these E60 cheap looking plastic things!

The same lowlife material is used around the AC / Radio area!
