Recently my PDC has been showing obstructions that do not exist. I will be pulling up into my garage, and before I get to the door, I push the PDC button so I know when to stop pulling in.

When I push the PDC button, the beeps go off and show a wall behind my car.... even though I'm still outside and there's nothing behind my car.

It does not happen every time, but it's been enough times that I think something is messed up.

Any ideas?

Happened to me too. I like PDC very much but with my wife's 3-series car it is much more precise and reliable.

If your driveway is on something of a hill, the PDC can go off because it sees the road behind you and interprets it as an obstruction. This occurred on my E39 as well.

This happened to me after I washed the car. Went away after 30 min or so.

Seems like the sensors doesn?t like too much high pressure water!?

Once I had a small wet leaf on one of the sensors. A couple of other times I got erroneous warnings when it was raining hard so water may affect it. Now that you mention it though, I think I have not had any incorrect functioning of the PDC since I had the software update ( V. 15.0) in January.

Water rolling off the bumper across the sensor will set it off for sure.

The other thing that happened to me quite frequently this winter was a constant "full red" alarm after washing the car and driving in very cold temperatures. Obviously, I think the water from the wash froze inside the sensor and caused the alarm. Once the car was able to thaw in my garage, everything worked perfectly again...

Yes dirt and ice on the sensors can definitely cause false PDC readings. Heavy snow/rain fall can as well as it is a radar system.
