Turn the ignition on but don't start the engine, put the car in reverse PDC should become active (fault in your case) then put your ear to each sensor (front and rear) and listen for a fast clicking sound, if you don't hear clicking from a sensor thats where the problem is.

I had the same exact problem a couple of days ago... I listened to all the sensors, and one was not clicking in the rear, but now everything is working properly ... hmmm maybe the cold weather..

You have to listen very closely each sensor... if you have a PDC Failure message, I think a sensor is not "clicking" properly .

Sorry, sensor failure was my problem.
BMW or an independant with the correect tool can communicate with the PDC ECU and find the problem.

This happened to me twice already. PDC MALFUNCTION. then disappeared.

I also had Steering wheel malfunction message once - dissapeared. Seat controls didn't work one day. Thought is a fuse but then it's back to normal.

Isn' t it weird?

What is the problem?

Ice, dirt or something on one or more sensors or is the whole system dead?

I did have some ice on one sensor, and the iDrive told me exactly
what sensor was "close".

I had one of my pdc sensors replaced a few weeks ago, was shutting off, just the one and wouldn't show up on the image on the idrive, bmw replaced it under the warranty.
