I have a 04 530d I?ve owned it 4 weeks now (what a car :D ).
last Saturday I turned on the ignition and (Bing Bing Bing) PDC failure warning popped up on the screen!
"Oh lovely I thought to myself what now"!

I checked the 5 amp fuse (no 69 in the boot/trunk) that was fine, I hadn't reversed or drove into anything and the day before the PDC was working fine!
The weather here had been fairly cold around -3c/ 26f, ice formed on the car but I'm thinking since the 5er is built in Bavaria & Munich low temperatures shouldn't be an issue.

The garage warranty will only cover the engine and gearbox and nothing else, so it's down to me to get it fixed.
It's not that I rely on it 100% but it can be handy for parking.
I've looked around the site but can't find anything on this topic.

Anyone had this problem or got any idea's how to diagnose and resolve the problem?
Is the PDC unit shot or could it be a sensor?
Aside from forking out a load of money!

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks R

I had the same problem, it was caused by water spillage in the boot - PDC module is located in spare wheel area. Check that connections are not damp or waterlogged.

Hope this helps

What does the iDrive screen show? Front and rear?

It could be only one sensor (of 8) that is broken or has a loose connection.

Here's what shows on the screen,
When the pdc engages there are no colours front or back (when the car is near anything).

tosh0_11 I checked for any spills in the boot, it seems to be all dry in there it's dark here at the moment I'll have a proper look tomorrow when it's bright.

Where exactly is the PDC module located ?

You know what I would do?

Have the problem checked by BMW Service as soon as possible.

But hey, I am gullible

Shit! And the fuse was OK - double shit.

To the dealers then, I guess

I ain't gonna bring it to a dealers for a couple of reasons

1 they charge ?140/$180 an hour just for labour!
2 I know a guy who has all the diagnostics gear and sorted out an e39 for me
3 I'm a tight wad :)

I'll have a good look at it in the morning if it's a loose connection I'll be happy, failing that I'll bring it to the guy who will fix it for me.

Oh the joys of driving a beautiful car :)
It could be worse I guess.

I only had one reason...
