Hi guys,
Well since my last post reference the lack of power (turns out it was the turbo), i have been experiencing a PDC Failure, this has been happening on and off for a while. Does anyone out there know what can cause this. I am thinking it maybe a loose wire or maybe dirt, dust or water in the sensors. My friend also has the 530d and he has been sharing my problem. I know that lots of guys on here are ninjas with these cars so im hoping that someone can shed some light.

What is the symptom? One of my front sensors was acting as if it was right up against a wall no matter how far I was from it. I got out of the car and smacked it - fixed it temporarily. It came back again a day or so later, but after this last car wash it has been fine. This leads me to believe there was something in it.

These are completlely sealed sensors. No way for anything to be "in" the sensor.

I once took one of my failing sensors that always showed a "hole" in the image and placed it in a cup of VERY hot water to somehow affect the internals of the sensor. It actually worked.... for about a week.

In your case, I would empty the spare tire area and get to the modules in the tray. The PDC module is in there. Check and reseat connectors, etc, check for moisture.

Indeed they are. There is a close cell foam that separates the transducer and the body along with a rubber seal:

Put your ear next to each PDC sensor. There should be a clicking sound produced by each one. If there is no clicking sound then either the connector is loose or the sensor is broken.

Hi Craig
I had issues with my PDC a while back, if you check this thread it may help to find / isolate the problem. PDC Failure
Good luck.

Could be just the sensor is bad. I would switch it out with another one that you know is working and see if your problem moves. The switching of the other sensor may not fit, but you can still connect it and partially install or hold it and see. Just my thought.

Hi I'm new here but, I had the same symptoms with my PDC sensor, it worked on and off/here, & there (errors on Idrive). I went to see John@motorcepts & his team, got it replaced about a month ago, no problems ever since. Excellent shop/service. shoutout to Leo
