Default PCV recall

I just received a BMW letter today saying my N52k engine is being recalled for the PCV heater value malfunction. It could melt down.

My neighbor is arguing the N52k engine has a CCV heater value, but not a PCV heater value.

When the BMW dealer replaces this part, do they have to remove the intake manifold?

CCV= crank case ventilation
PCV = positive crancase ventilation (old school term)
The heater is intended to prevent condensation from freezing the valve, and yes, they have been known to melt down/burn.

They remove the alternator to get to it. So, because of that, I had them wait to do my repair after the engine cooled down. The service writer wanted me to just wait on it but I was told that the aluminum bolts for the alternator are not just torques but angular torqued so I insisted they do it on a cool engine. Hopefully they did. I did get a loaner that day......just a convertible m240 x-drive.....fun little car!

I go this recall letter a few days ago on a 2010 528i that I just sold. However, I still own a 2008 535i, and have not received the same recall letter for it....I am the original owner, so I am in the BMW "system". Question...is this recall something that would not apply to the 535i? Or have I somehow missed my recall letter for the 535i.

I don't think this recall apples to any of the x35 models

I just unplugged mine when I changed my alternator. I have no desire to let anyone at the dealership touch my car. It almost never gets cold enough for me to have to worry about it not working.

Default PCV Recall Update

BMW has expanded the PCV heater recall to include earlier N52 cars...

They're adding these:

E60 2006 5 Series - Production date: Feb 2005 – Feb 2006
E61 2006 5 Series Wagon - Production date: Apr 2005 – Feb 2006

I got this same recall letter but I already replaced the parts when I was working on the crank angle sensor. I was going to tell them to inspect the part and reimburse me for the parts. Has anyone ever done this?
