Found this new passenger seat airbag sensor emulator that clears the fault on the three wire plug sensor mat on eBay. It is a Plug & Play unit for around $67.50 I purchased one and it reallly works. No need to reset the fault, it happens automatically. Neat piece of device, beats the cost of a new mat at the dealer.

I bought one for my E60, turned out the error was somewhere else.....If anyone wants such a thing, I am willing to sell mine, for 15 euros + shipping (to europe)

Shouldn't you know exactly why you have this error and what it's telling you? It seems a bit premature to just go out and purchase such a devise to turn out an advisory / warning light. Just imagine if you were giving someone a ride and involved in a nasty crash. You look over and see you passenger not moving and that your airbag deployed but theirs didn't. Then you hear people calling for EMS and next a coroner. Just sayin'...

Ah, while you are shopping on ebay for this, they also have a device like the end of seatbelt clips that you can install so you don't have to wear your seatbelt and you do not get the annoying reminder chime. Keep in mind that the safety system has sensors there for a reason. If something is not working properly it can cause the system not to work at all or prematurely work when it's really not needed. E.G. if you are not restrained the system knows this and will fire the airbags for a lesser crash where normally they would have not been needed them. Or, both AB's deploy even though no one is in the seat. Now you have a driver bag to replace but also a big ass hole in your IP. Just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

Well that's what my indy said after reading the codes (restraint system faulty, probably passanger mat, expensive replace because of comfort seats), but after I read and cleared them myself a couple of weeks ago, the warning went away....
And because I live in Europe, unbelted passangers are never an issue. And in case the seat mat is deactivated, the airbag fires anyway....But that was not the case, so all is well

Using the device will result in passenger air bag always on and at full power regardless of empty seat, adult or child in passenger seat. Not a good idea IMHO.

Why is bad idea? Well it's on and good. You are not going drive kids on front seat anyway. I think it's good device, when BMW is refused to fix flow in the design.

I guess the big question is, is it really always on even though there is a fault there? The system is telling you that something is wrong. It might be something very minor and the system might works fine, but my guess is that you REALLY don't know this for sure... Obviously, each can do what they want, but as stated in my earlier post it would be a waste of a perfectly good IP for the passenger airbag to deploy when it's not needed because there is no one in the seat. Now you have a steering wheel AB to replace and also the passenger AB along with an IP. I know people spend thousands on mods etc but don't want to spend the money to repair their safety item. It just makes no sense to me.
