Wouldn't you know it......my warranty expired yesterday and low and behold I get a "passenger Restraint Warning" light this morning!!! What timinng. The part that puzzles me is that the passenger airbag light does detect if someone is sitting in the seat. Is there a way I can re-set this myself? I did bring the car in for the same issue a few months ago.....they didn't have to replace anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Search the Forum...that's a very common problem and I heard some law suits pending too but I don't know if it's true. Dealer can probably do it under warranty if you bring it in ASAP since it just expired one day. The occupancy sensor probably needs to be replaced...it is like over $1000 cause it includes part of the seat cover etc...no kidding...so bring it in ASAP and let us know.

+1, I had the same issue. Standard BMW protocol is: first time light goes off: reset software, second time light goes off: replace seat sensor at cost of about $1600. Mine was under warranty.

I did buy the Mercury extended warranty. I did have the car in for the same issue last month. They just re-set the software. Shouldn't the BMW warranty be liable since the repair wasn't taken care of properly? Thanks

I had the same issue 2 days after I bought my CPO 525. Im thinking, since it is a common issue with an SIB out they might be nice and fix it for you. Try a few dealerships and see what happens... it can't hurt to try and save 1000 bucks.

Thanks for the input guys.....I spoke to my service advisor this afternoon and he said that since the car was in for the same issue recently i wouldn't be liable. Let's hope they fix the problem this time.

Thanks for the info guys.....I just got the call from my sa and he said the the seat sensor had to be replaced and that it would take a few hours. Ouch!!! Luckily I had it in last month 4 the same issue before my warranty expired and because of that my original warranty would still cover the repair.
