Passenger Restraint System Error
 

Hi all,
I have this error popping up on my iDrive.
Has anyone seen it and if so what does it usually indicate?
At first read I thought that it was the Seat Mat Sensor, now I think that it may be the actual Seat Belt itself.

iDrive error:

Pass. Restraint System
Fault in passenger-restraint system affecting Airbag, Belt Tensioner or Belt Force Limiter.
Continue to wear the Safety Belt
Have the System Checked by the nearest BMW Center.

Could be a number of things. You'll need to have the codes pulled.

I'm getting the same error. Wonder if it's a easy fix.

Depends. Could be the Passenger seat sensor mat ($$$$$$), could be the battery BST cable, which was my problem ($250 for part, replaced it myself). Could be any number of other sensors or modules.

BMWs are not cars that you can just guess what the issue is. They have sensors and modules for everything. If you want to know what the issue is you must have the equipment to hook up to your car to find out what the computer is telling you. If you do not have the code more than likely no one will be able to help you unless it has been covered in the DIY section and even then it might not be the same issue you are having.

Post the code and we can help you solve your issue faster.

Have a look at the connectors under the seats maybe one of them has come loose?? I hope it's not an airbag apparently they are expensive to replace/fix

Try to clear the codes first and see if they come back, lots of time it is just a one time glitch....
That's what I have done several times with these codes popping up in my 545.

You know what they say about software....? Works most of the time but never all of the time....

i had the same code came up as battery safety terinal or something there is a connector on your battery positive terminal i unplugged it cleared my codes with the BMWhat app and plugged it back in cleared codes again and it was gone

Thanks for the responses.
I definitely agree that I need to clear ALL errors and see what pops back up.
This seems to be the first thing recommended when a code pops up.

I did check all connections and everything looks good and tight.
I do think that I am going to disconnect the connections and put them back together.
I Install and repair Xray equipment and you would be amazed at how many times resetting connectors on a PCB or a wire harness can solve crazy problems.
Oxidation and faulty contacts over time can cause problems.

I saw this video on another forum and would be my last resort as I hate cutting cables.


Also when I pull up recalls for my '06 530i there is a current recall via BMW for the Positive Battery Cable.
Which I am pretty sure was never done to my car.
I want to check into this as well.

bud - i used that video as a guide on fixing the passenger restraint error on my car, but I didn't cut any wires. What I did was bent the ends of the resistor and used a sharp side cutter to make a barb on the ends, and slipped it into the top connector, then used electrical tape to secure it in place.
