Passenger high beam not working

I just found out that my passenger high beam won't come on during an annual state inspection this afternoon. The driver side works fine. I rarely use high beams when driving so this really surprised me. Is this just a simple bulb replace fix ( does it have separate hid bulbs for high and low beams, or does it use one bulb for both?) or is this problem more than a simple bulb replacement. My car is 05 545 with hid / xenon lamps. Thank you.

Not sure what lights you have. The headlight variations are many. I have a 2006 530xi with Bi-Xenons. It does both high and low with Xenon. But, flash-to-pass uses the Halogen hi-beam. The Halogen hi-beam is not on if the high beams are on except flash-to-pass. You should get in front of your car and have wife operate low, high flash-to-pass and high on and see what light up and what doesn't.

I have the bi xenon headlights. It is the passenger xenon high beam that is not turning on. The flash to pass beams are ok. So is it possible for the high beam to be bad even if the low beam is ok in which both comes from the same bulb?

Try swapping the bulbs from the passenger to the driver. You have only one main xenon bulb and it shouldn't take more than 15 minutes. if the problem follows then you have a bad bulb. When you pull the bulb just don't touch any of the glass part. They say the oils from your fingers are not good for it...

that would be the magnetic shutter inside the headlight that's not working. You can activate that specific function in DIS to see if it works or not, alternatively code out bi-xenons in your light module and you will have the halogen bulbs for both flash to pass and full beam (this is stock behaviour in the UK).
