What the heck does this mean? Does it mean the 2005 e60's will not have the passenger airbag light? By the way, my light works fine - nobody in the passanger seat, lights on - passenger, light off.

So, it's better to have an airbag status light that doesn't tell you the real status of the airbag? How's that better?

For MY2005 it will only light up if there is a rear-facing child safety seat installed. It will not light up if there is not an occupant in the seat. All vehicles prior to 09/04/2004 will not be able to be retrofitted to this operation.

You can "retrofit" it by removing the indicator, taking it apart and taping over the led's. You must do this with the car shut off so as to not trigger a fault indication that the dealer must reset. Also, if you do this, tell your dealer not to try to fix it when you bring your car in for service (he'll understand).

One of the more idiotic government mandates out there.....

OK, so it still lights up if the occupant is too small and it's disabled. It's only off if the seat is totally empty. Makes sense.

I guess that makes sense. It will stop annoying those who found the illuminated light annoying (it really doesn't bother me). I have also had the "disabled" light go on when an adult male was sitting there, but with his briefcase on his lap, which would have obstructed the firing of the bag. I told him to put it down near his feet, and when he did, the light went off within about 30 second. It also went on when a small person had the seat moved all the way back and reclined a little. So somehow it is sensing bag obstruction or an out-of-position occupant (too far away) as well as the presence of a child seat. I get the sense it knows what it's doing.

Hi there. I'm new here. I'll be taking delivery of my 2005 car in April. This is a topic that is very important to me. So I wonder if someone (preferably in the UK or with UK Spec car) can enlighten me.
I have a little toddler of 6 months, and a two year old. In my current car, which has a manual passenger airbag pass, we put the toddler in the front (rear facing seat, airbag disabled), and the two year old in the back on a booster seat.
Can anyone please tell me if I will be okay using the rear facing seat with the toddler in the front passenger seat. In other words, will the passenger airbag automatically disable itself ?

(Otherwise I have the unappealing prospect of putting both kids in the back.......at least the toddler's not old enough to fight back her elder sister yet!!)

Thanks in advance
