In the fuse box on my 528i there are spare slots for slot number:


19, 20, 26, 30, 33, 35, 36, 38


Are the above spare slots switched circuits and go off when the engine is off or are they live all the time?

you would have to test them to see. If you have a multi meter then it should only take a minute or two to figure out the answer

I recently tapped into the CCC's power which is live when the car is unlocked already.
I'd assume that this is the case for some fuses as well.
Therefor, using a multimeter isn't a good way of testing this.

No the CCC is not live when the car is already unlocked it is live when it wakes. You use the multi meter to test when the car is off and on. Meaning if the car is wake, on or off you can find out which slot is activated when. So a multi meter will assist you in achieving this.

Well, it wakes when I unlock the car. That's what I meant.
Is this not true for any fuses?
If not, using a multimeter does work.

Generally in the e60 fuse box (glove compartment), is could be fair to say there are:

11 fuses that are 30 amp
2 fuses that are 20 amp
1 fuse that is 10 amp
1 fuse that is 7.5 amp
5 fuses that are 5amp

Now for the big question, don't we already know how many of the above are switched? Its is about 20%, 40%?

Here's a new idea.

I'm trying to install a dash cam and Garmin GPS to a 10 amp circuit because the fuse tap (fuse splitter) wire can only handle 10 amps.

We know the e60 cigarette lighter fuse is 20 amp and is a switched fuse.

How about I remove the cigarette lighter 20 amp fuse and insert the fuse tap and use a 10 amp fuse in that slot for the GPS?

@scottalexander you are making this way too complicated. keep the power ports fused properly and find your own circuit to use for the camera. You can certainly use that circuit but no reason to change the fuse. Your splitter device for the camera should have it's own fuse.

@chris30o0 a multi meter is the perfect tool for the job. If you want to determine what is on when the car is awake or not then keep the doors open and wait for it to sleep which is ~20min
