I visited a small private hospital last night and took a friend out to dinner. I noticed, beside the parking toll ticket shed a diagonally parked silver E39, with M5 wheels. It was spotless, but it didn't look right (stance, etc) While I was waiting for my friend, I noticed the kid (maybe 22) in the toll booth eyeing my car, but that didn't surprise me. Eventually he came out and knocked off a dozen or so pushups in the grass, keeping an eye on me the whole time (thought that a bit odd).

As my friend approached, she actually went to the E39, for a moment, until she realized that I had the new black E60 just beyond it. I laughed and said out the open window: "Gone, but not forgotten."

Later that eveninig when we returned, the kid was closing up and did a real hard stare this time. I said goodnight to my friend and looked around to see the lot attendant closing up shop....and opening up the E39! Now I know why he was staring. Oh, and as I pulled around, I got an answer to my doubts about the stance: debadged. To me that screams 525-trying-too-hard, but I'll never know. We both drove off, in separate directions; maybe he was happy to gawk, but didn't care to solicit any come-ons...

Cheers,
Ray Hull

No, I'm not dreaming...but then, I suppose he was equally taken aback when Betty went for his car, before heading for mine.

Close encounters of the e-series kind,
