Noticed the other day that my paint on just about every curved surface of the car has a slight degree of orange peel. The images reflected in the paint all have a fuzzy outline to them. The overall reflective quality of the paint is good, but this discovery has me a bit concerned. I would expect the surface of the paint to have a more mirror like quality.

The color is titanium grey metalic, is it color specific?

I plan to stop by the BMW lot tomorrow and see if any of the other new cars on the lot have the same paint characteristics.

Any comments on this would be appreciated.

I was under the assumption that the paint is powder coated on instead of sprayed on.. this may be the effects of it.

BMW paint has been like this for years in I think all colors. I notice it all the time especially since I deal with painting all the time. I don't like the fact that BMW paints their cars with the process they use. They should do a better job especially considering how much you are paying for the car. One good thing about BMW paint though is that it is a hard paint. Can't say that about VW or Audi which both have very soft paint.

Same here.

Plus, at certain angles, the metalic specs seem to have different shades...so it looks like clouds (bcoz of the ligther shades) This is more noticeable on the hood. The only other part is the vertical surfaces of the trunk lid.

I've clayed, used different paint cleaners, polishes and waxes and it still looks the same. So I believe this is a below the paint surface problem.

I'm only going to keep the car for another year or so. I'd probably just leave it ...saves me the hassle of taking it in....

The paint is sprayed on
Clear coat is applied as a white powder and then baked to become clear
