Is it just me or are most of you guys doing ok with the paint on your cars?
I have expected a better quality from BMW than the paint quality on my car.

I have a couple of chips on the hood but my main concern is the eching on the boot looks awful and i have it in the shop now to let the Rep look at it as it not even 30,000 on the clock and i need a repaint i keep the car waxed and clean and the dealer also did there little paint protection thingy on it but it is only etched on the boot i have 3 other cars and none of them have experienced this anyone else out there have a problem like this?

Speaking of small rock chips.. How do you guys go about fixing them. I understand the dealer sells touch up paint but I've never used it. Usually comes with an applicator brush, similar to finger nail polish. Is there a technique to fixing small chips or just try and be as neat as possible?

I read a little about Dr. Colorchip on this forum and others and ordered a BMW silver gray touch-up kit from them today. The website is www.drcolorchip.com. The one-color kit is a pricey $46 with shipping. It looks like a bunch of dealers and professional detailers use their products and I thought it was worth a try.
The concept is to layer the paint over the chip, no precision necessary. Then apparently you can use the "smoothing" liquid to remove the excess paint leaving a pretty good finish on the chip. I'm curious to see if it works as well as everyone says.

87.000 km's, and not a single door ding!
But I'm very critical when it comes to parking... Sometimes it takes a while to find a good parking spot, where no other cars can park next to our E60 ![Cool](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/cool.gif)

I'm with you. No dings and only a few minor nicks on the front bumper. Knock on wood.

It takes effort, as you must park away from other cars and use good parking strategy. I've got plenty of tricks. Importantly, you must teach these parking tenets to your significant other. Only takes one lapse of judgement.

3 door dings on rear passenger door from "friendly fire" - Wife's SUV used to be in the same garage and either the kids or mom ding'd my 5 when they get off the SUV. After the 3rd ding, wife's SUV is no longer allowed to park in the garage including winter.
there are numerous 'rock' chips on the hood and front bumper... I'm on my 2nd windscreen..the 1st cracked after hit by who knows wat... I'd say, paint and windscreen are of poor quality of a vehicle at this price range.

All this environment stuff is good for your children...but not for your car.
I have owned old (new then) BMW cars whith oil based paints...
Now even the front window is so soft - for your safty!
