I am going to replace the windshield in my 2005 530i. It has a long crack starting from the driver side lower corner next to A-pillar for no reason. This crack grows fast everyday. I called insurance company, they asked me whether my E60's windshield glass is rose tinted or not. They told me to put a piece of white paper on one side of the glass and then look at the white paper from the other side. If the glass is rose tinted, it will show a bit of pink color.

My question is: do our car come with rose tinted windshield ?

Thanks,

Not that I know of. There is a tint but I would not call it rose by far.

Thanks for the response. I have not looked at my car yet because it is at home. Insurance also told me to look for the word "solar" or "sungate" around the BMW logo etching in the bottom corner of the windshield. Without this piece of information, they won't be able to find the correct windshield glass for my car :-(

I have no idea how much would this cost. My insurance pay for it - aftermarket glass. If the car is a couple years old, insurance will pay the dealer glass but not 7 years old car.

I thought insurance covered aftermarket glass 100% and charged very little for OE glass (~$100?). Then again, my comprehensive deductible is $100.

Depends on your insurance and what you signed up with. Some plans may have glass coverage but only will go aftermarket. others have the glass deductible at a lower cost others have the coverage at the same rate as the normal deductible. It would be a good thing to ask. I called and I happen to have glass coverage at $100 and it replace everything with OEM, which was good as I had HUD

Some vehicles with solar glass will have a brown or rose tint to it. Not sure that our BMW's came with it or not. Most common color is either blue or green tint.
