Orange Light at P on Gear Indicator

My Ride: 11 550i Sophisto Gray/Oyster Black/Anthracite, Sprt Trns, DHP, IAS, SP, PP1, PP2, CWP, HUD, DAP, AVSP, SF RS, CA, ACC - Euro Del
After I got out of my 545 this evening, I noticed the orange light, next to the P, for park, at the base of the auto tranny gear shift, stays on. Everything else shut down properly. This was after I exited the car and I locked it. Why did this stay on?

LOL ! I asked the same question one year ago. Dont worry if you go back 30 minutes later the light is off. Dont worry it's fine.

pharding, you've had the car how long and just noticed this?
Yes, it is normal and it will stay illuminated until the car goes to sleep. If you '01 was an automatic, I think it did the same thing...
