My Ride: 2006 525i
Model Year: 2006
Hello All,
I have a 2006 525i with the standard (non-L7) audio, no nav, and no CD changer installed. I'd like to have a USB port for connecting flash drives. I'm not interested in video, iPod, or anything else - just being able to play MP3s from a USB flash drive. What are my options? I did a forum search, but there seem to be many conflicting reports/opinions. Specifically, my questions are:
- Can I have a USB port retrofitted by my BMW dealer? It seems that a BMW "retrofit kit" exists, but will this work on my 2006? Will I be able to see the artist/song names on the iDrive screen?
- If not, then I understand that my only option is the Dension GW500 - correct? In this case, will I be able to see the artist and song names on the iDrive screen?
Thanks!

Hi
Yes you can retrofit a USB mass media connection.
i have no clute on the cost for it.
If you go for a GW500 you can add Bluetooth. and IPHONE to that aswell if you got TV in your car you can also add the AVR function so you will be able to see movies.
Can you play MP3 cds today?
IF yes then is quite easy
If no you have to upgrade your car for about 300usd.
For what i have undestood that the GW500 system is easier to handle the MP3s in and with the orgin BMW you have to sotr the songs in spec catalogs and so on. im not quite sure on this one.
i will turn in my car on wendesday for a uppgrade to MP3. and maybe i will have the GW500 installed. im just waiting for some answers from the dealer first.
Good luck.
