Ok, I'm getting a 2004 E60 tomorrow, and I had a friend from local BMW dealership to pull up a vehicle history report on the car. I have a question about some of the options:

0697 DVD Area coding, North America - what excatly does that mean? Does this mean I can watch DVD's or what is it exactly?

08SP CO2 Control - ??

I would be really grateful if you could shed some light on this.
Thanks,
Alex

Don't see options, but I assume you have NAV. The NAV uses a DVD drive, which must be set for North America, hence the DVD coding N.A. Different regions use different coding.

CO2? Don't know for sure, but my guess is some emmissions package for N.A. Don't know if BMW builds in different exhaust/CO2 systems in California, but maybe your car came fro CA.

No, the car is from Texas, and was delivered to Texas originaly.
The car has no Nav, only this DVD code option? Anyone knows what it might be?

This in not US specific issue. My 530xd order to Finland includes several automatic options such as:
- 698 Area code 2 DVD ( ready for a NAV, EU version)
- 8SP COP Control ( not CO2!), purpose unknown to me
- 8SA Country specific NAVI connector
- 850 Factory code (?)
-1CA Factory code (?)

8SA Country specific NAVI connector is probably some electronic connector specific for your country for NAV to operate properly.

Anyway, if anyone knows about the DVD deal, let me know.
Thanks!

sorry can't help. Does the dealer not know?

Yeah, I called them yesterday. DVD code option means that the car is pre-wired for the NAV and I can put it in and the DVD option is for N.A.

I have this option listed also. I have been considering getting a nav retrofit; are you considering it as well? If so, have you asked the dealer for a price?

When I asked my SA last time I was there if nav could be installed, he rolled his eyes. Nice guy, but sometimes he's a little clueless about such things. Although, I guess it could be prohibitively expensive as a retrofit.

I do notice, however, that when I go to one of the iDrive service menus it has a lat and long information displayed which is updated in real time...so some of the guts must be there.

I'll make another go at him and let you know what I find out if you're interested.

No, I did not ask thge dealer cause i'm not really interested in the NAV. I would be interested to know how much it would cost though!
