Guys,
It has been 2 months since I last visited this forum. I hope I come to you today with something useful and I hope I?m not repeating something that you already knew that I missed.
A friend of mine got hit in the back last week, he didn?t pull over because he knew it was a minor thing and that nothing happened. Later on he goes around the car to check it out to find that nothing happened, though the black lids (the ones in place of the red reflectors) started pealing off some kind of rubberish black thing and behind it was a red reflecting surface.
Please see the pictures bellow , a picture is worth a thousand words.
Please give me your thoughts on this one, of course I already BOUGHT the rear red reflectors from them. So when I got home I tried to peal my old ones off and it did come out.

Too cool. Anyone try this? Post some pics.
If you didn't think this board was the best before, this post clinches it. Where else would you be able to find out stuff like this?

Definateley a big NOT .

This may be the case for those late production MY05 cars that have the color coded piece, but certainly not for our cars! The reflector from Bekkers is a different part with the back made of light grey plastic which is clipped/bonded to the red reflector. I cannot comment on whats behind the paint on a later production MY05 reflector/insert but for those of us with the black inserts, you can scrape all you like. There is NO easter egg behind it. If the poster wasn't a senior member.......

OK, I beleive you. I am sorry for the reaction of disbelief. I think your car is different than the US spec cars that have a black plastic insert instead of the painted reflector.

I agree! I have a 2005 (10/04 production) 545i, and there is a black plastic insert in place of the reflectors to which you refer. In my case, my car is a Black Saphire and the inserts appear to be a part of the bumper/spoiler structure. If you look at the 2004 or the 2005 5 Series brochure you do see the reflectors on the cars in some of the photographs, so this must be a Euro requirement.

Thanks for the post, you sure had a lot of us going out to examine the rear of our cars, though.
