At the front bumper, just below the license plate, the centre grid (black-coloured part) is open. Travelling at high speed there are possibilitiies that stones will fly into the open grid and hit the radiator, potentially causing damages and burning our pockets. I am thinking of covering the hole with black wire mesh, do you think it is necessary and a good idea?

My idea about this is that BMW would have done that if it was needed.. If my radiator is leaking due to a stone I will ask BMW why they didn't do anything about it to prevent it..

Depending on BMW to take of all the problems of the E60...well, we know that doesn't happen.

We need a mesh grill cover in that area. It's obvious.

What will that do with the cooling of your radiator?? I think that is the reason why BMW doesn't give you a mesh grill because you will get overheating problems in warm enviroments..

I saw an white E60 with a custom mesh grill painted white. It looked good. The bumper had to be removed to have it installed. It also had the B pillar, mirror base and all other plastic trim painted white. I haven't been able to find a link for it.

Maybe someone else remembers it.

You know, it's not just stones, but over the years leaves, dirt and trash will be clogging the radiator cooling fins.

IMO, since I've seen many BMW's with mesh grilles and no posts on multiple forums about cooling problems, it won't be an issue.
