Yes, but mostly the car will let you know when. Again, I wouldn't go by what BMW says for maintenance. People should do more maintenance than what BMW recommends.
If you own your e60, most will recc to perform the services in about 1/2 the recc'd BMW time....

Your car doesn't really have intervals based on mileage. Instead your car monitors all relevant parameters...miles, speed, time, RPMs, etc. to decide when it is time for the various services to be performed. So when it is time to get the oil changed, you should get a message on your dash saying so. Same for brake fluid, and most other things.
Isn't it great...just sit back and drive...the car will tell you if it needs anything..........
BTW, you should find the oil change light coming on at roughly 14K - 16K miles.
Dam...you guys are fast...(3) responses in the time it took me to type my response.

Just a warning about this, when you get something done ALWAYS get the service interval thing reset. If the garage forget to reset it go back there and then and make them do it.
Most of you probably do this anyway, but the less meticulous of us may not. In my E39 the garage forgot to do it and when I realised I though ah I'll do it tomorrow. A few months later it still wasnt done and I lost count of when services etc were needed and just had to guess. Obviously not good for the car!

Yeah, here's a thought, if iDrive tells you when service is due does that mean it will annoy the shit out of DiYers or can the owner reset the service reminder?
So no worries there for you.
