I've thrown it into neutral many times by mistake on the SAT. Usually, it's just after I was driving for a while and stopped or used reverse for a minute and forgot to put it back into manual mode.

For me, I can say that I use M1-M6 (manual sport mode) 99.9% of the time. Coming off of an SMG, it's just natural for me to continue to use manual mode...
Yep, especially after starting the car and pushing forward for reverse and not getting all the way there. However, im a a lot more used to the shifter and SAT now and spend most of my time with the sport button activated and sometimes using paddles to go Manual M1-M6 immediately after start up, how can you not push the "sport button"???
(take the red pill )

I found out recently that whilst in M1-M6 mode, with the sports button on of course, that as you redline in manual mode it changes up a gear anyway. Almost like a launch control just without the high revs to begin with. Just plant your right foot and hold on.

I'm in the habit now of pulling the lever down, over, and up to instantly enable "M1" (the movement is similar to how you'd put an SMG car into reverse.) This way, you don't have to shift manually one time to get into manual mode...

If your driving the SAT whether its in a 550 or a 535.... you most likely spend the majority of your driving time in S1-S5 or M1-M6.

BUT how many of you, being used to knocking the stick forward and backward, have tapped it forward while in "D" mode and landed in neutral??

I remember one day I was driving at about 45mph and went to pass someone and just hit the stick forward to downshift and BOOM - Neutral at 5500 RPM. Think I got walked by a Kia Sportage or something...

On a side note, although I thoroughly enjoy M1-M6 (manual mode in sport), I must admit that S1-S5 in auto mode is a blast. The acceleration almost seems better and more aggressive in Auto Sport Mode than in M-Mode.

I can equate S1-S5 like 'SMG Lite'. It is scarily similar to D mode in an M5 but just not quite as jerky and with no need for throttle modulation.

The sport Automatic Transmission is a dream and its amazing how perfect BMW made this transmission. Its so fun and performance oriented and yet so civilized and even more silky smooth than a Lexus when in D mode.

GUILTY!
