Just left my Indy shop from getting an oil change and was told that my oil pan gasket needs changing ($678). I don't think I have a leak because when I asked why I was told that it was due to be changed. I have 106,000 on the ticker. I do believe in preventive maintenance but a gasket getting change when there is no leaking is I think throwing away money. Tell what you think, should I or should I not get it changed and is the price quoted a little expensive. I know that the dealer charges around $1100 depending on which one you go to but I saw that someone had theirs changed for $350 at their Indy shop. I know these models you have to take the subframe off or lift the engine. I just need some insight. The car is a 05 E60 (M52).

You have an E60 M54 and to change an oil pan gasket, although I've never done one, CANNOT be that hard. Access to the oil pan appears to quite simple. But a quick search pulls up a lot. I would definitely tackle it by myself if it needed it. My dealer price for this gasket is $23.80 but you can get even cheaper.

not leaking, don't fix it.

if your car has that much mileage and has never had a water pump and/or thermostat, spend your money there. or save it for when something actually does fail.

I thought about not doing it. I looked at some other methods and might save it for a weekend in the garage for a DIY.

Life in Riverview is good at the moment. Its not raining!! I guess if I give it a few minutes it will start back up. LOL

Sure, given your mileage you're overdue!

And it is time to change out your rear axle, steering wheel and seats too!

Now I've heard it all. The Indy must have an orthodontic payment for his kid coming due.
