LCI 550s do not have a dipstick. If iDrive says that you are at the minimim level and that you need to add oil, add one quart. And yes, it takes something like 10 minutes with the engine on before it will give you an oil level reading on the iDrive for the LCI 550. I have to add a quart about every 6k miles.
I remember reading a thread about this way back and looked for mine and damn, found it. Once you see it you wonder how you missed it before. i really think, from smell and look of fluid on it when I pulled it out, that its an oil dipstick. Check it out.

wait a minute - i don't feel like researching this right now, but I have an LCI 550 and I have a dipstick. I don't know if the dipstick, honestly, is for the transmission or the oil, but I have one and I've looked at it, taken it out, put it back, etc etc.

and read all about it here, with pictures. It is only on the V8's though, not the 6's.

You guys are the BEST!!! Got home and checked... I DO HAVE A DIPSTICK (and I'm not talking the guy that usually sits in the driver's seat either).
This car's a keeper! No runflats, got a spare, have a dipstick, got the 6MT, etc...
