Oil level sensor
Anyone have any problems with the oil level sensor not reading the right level? Randomly in the past 2 days I got the " Oil at minimum....add..etc" on I-drive. The first time I got the message I checked the dipstick and it was about 1/4 up from the low mark. So I added 1 liter/quart. Now the level is right at the top of the dipstick. The next day I got the message again after driving for about 30 minutes. Checked the oil on the dipstick and its still at the top.
I'm sure its just a gummed up level sensor, which I'll either clean or replace. Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else? (04 545i). |
No, but it aggravates me to no end that there is no dipstick in my 2006 550i. I am and continue to be skeptical of the reliability and accuracy of the automated/idrive oil level check feature.

I have been having oil sensor issues too. The CBS oil change due was recalculated and instead of 15000 miles, it went down to 800 miles. That was 2-3 days after I changed the oil (GC 0w-30). I cannot reset the interval either. Tthere is a code thrown, 2EA1: oil condition sensor, communication so unless the wiring is bad, I think the sensor is gone.

Change the oil level sensor during the next oil change and move on... :-)
Think of it this way, oil level sensor on E60 is mounted FROM bottom of the oil pan. Relatively easy job. On my previous MB C320, the oil level sensor was mounted INSIDE the oil pan. I had to remove the lower pan to replace the sensor. With 4-matic, you can't just drop the pan because there is no room...either you have to lift the engine or drop the supporting frame. |
Well, must of been a freak thing. Haven't had the msg since.

Got the msg again today. Checked oil level on dipstick and its right at the top. Looks like I'll be changing the sensor next oil change.

Conflicting Part Numbers For Replacement Oil Level Sensor
Hello all,
I have a 2004 545i, 6 MT. I had a warning come up on my display stating that my oil level sender (sensor) had a fault (?). It came up twice as I was driving. The third time of stopping, checking and starting again; the warning went away completely. I am thinking that the sensor is on its way out. I did a bit of searching and found multiple P/N’s for the replacement. Realoem.com shows 12-61-7-607-910 as do a few other sites. Other sites show P/N: 12-61-7-508-003 as a replacement for the sensor/sender. I will tell you that the -910 P/N is much more expensive than the -003 P/N... like ~$200.00 versus ~$70.00. So which one is it? I can tell you that my car DOES have a dip stick to check the oil. Perhaps the -910 is for the newer cars without the dip stick and the -003 works for the vehicles with dip sticks? Thanks! |

It is intermittent... like it was with the original. If I shut down the engine and restart, the error message goes away until I restart again where I may or may not get the error message. Anybody ever deal with a similar issue? My intermittent issue started soon after I changed my alternator. Seems like one thing after the other! |
