Car had full oil level beginning of February. The idrive says next change is in 2700 miles. Is it normal to go down to this level? Car seems to be running okay. No smoke coming out of the exhaust. I don't see any noticable leaks where I park (have own parking spot at work as well). The only issue I had is that I had to change an ignition coil a few weeks ago. If it's normal to go down to this level, how many quarts should I add, or is it okay to wait a couple of months for the next oil change.

Dont add anything its fine the way it is right now. Between min and max is about 1 quart. The iDrive will tell you if you need to add oil.

You've already read that the oil level will indicate when it's low enough to warrant addition of one or more quarts of oil. Also, you probably know that under the maintenance warranty your oil will be changed at the mileage indicated by iDrive or once a year - whichever comes first. This month iDrive was still indicating 6K miles until a change was required but one year had passed - I had a "low miles" oil service completed under warranty.

Well depends on your car, the V8s at full take about 8-9 quarts of oil not sure about the I6s and the V10s take about 9 quarts of oil when full... but regardless, with any car the amount between MIN and MAX is about 1 quart.
If your oil is anywhere in between that its within its normal operating range there is no need to always have the oil level at MAX.

I add oil every time I get a low oil warning. the first time it happened the dealership opened the hood and added oil for me......the second time they suggested that i buy a quart from the BMW parts department, pour it in and keep a quart in the trunk. I have added an extra quart between each oil change. It usually requires an extra quart after i have driven about 10,000 on each oil change.
