Got a low oil level warning message from the I-Drive this afternoon. Anyone have to top up their oil level after 4500 miles???
I had to do that on my E46 320iSE but never had to on my E46 325iSE.
Just curious that's all.
Going to get it topped up tomorrow. According to the I-drive it needs about 1litre of oil.

BMW 530,
I had to put a litre of oil in a couple of weeks back after same mileage.
I also had to do the same with my previous car ( A4 Cabrio 2.4 ) but never on previous BMW's. I think that these modern multi valve engines use a fair amount of oil in first few thousand miles and then use less.
I bought my top up Castrol oil from Halfords who stock the correct grade as per the BMW owners manual.

Happened to me after 5000 miles. Dealer said it's nothing to worry about some
new engines may require some topping up
May have something to do with the way you drive those first miles?

Cheers

Just got an oil top up from my dealer and they didn't charge me for it.

They confirmed that the engines do use up a fair amount of oil initially during the first few thousand miles which was true for my 320iSE not sure what happened to the 325iSE though They're basically the same type of engine, maybe they filled up more oil in the 325

my previous BMW also used a fair bit of oil during the early stages of its life, nothing to worry about, as your dealer said

I just checked mine which has been standing, and it is down 3 mm for the first 6,000 miles. Looks like I can easily go the distance until the first oil change by the OBC.

So far, after almost 6000 miles, no indication of any low oil in my car. It's funny because my 1998 540i and my 2001 540i never needed any oil added either. The only time the oil was touched was at the dealership when the car was serviced.

I never had to do anything between services...pretty amazing if you ask me.

With my old 330CI they had to top it up three times between the changes.. Could also be because I drove that car fairly fast and aggressive.. I drive much relaxed with lower rpms with this car so I'm curious when I have to top it up or if I'll make it to my first service appointment

Wow, I have almost 8000 miles on my car (in 3 months) and still no oil usage. I drive very hard by US standards as well. I regularly drive 110mph on the highways here in NJ and i have a 23 mile part of a road that is all stop and go with lights. I don't like being behind traffic so I normally swith to sport mode and take off in front. All has been fine with my 530i.

Well it finally happened to me. Today I got in the car and I never received a message in the I-Drive but I saw the little triangle on the dash so I went into service messages and it said that I had a low oil level and to add a quart ASAP. I have 9,880 miles. Says I need an oil change in 1,700 miles. Having it done on Monday.
