I couldn't find this on the DIY forum, so I'm asking here. I'm getting ready to change my oil with an oil extractor(place tube down dipstick hole, pump, oil is vacuumed into holding receptacle to be recycled). Has anyone used this method on their E60? Seems like an easy and fast way to do interim oil changes, especially considering the ease in which the oil filter can be changed at the same time. Thanks.

Never used one, but in another forum the siphoning system is controversal. Some claim they can get more oil out that way than draining while others maintain the opposite. If I was still into changing my own oil, I would certainly consider a suction system.

I have never used it but have met someone in my BMW CCA chapter who swears by it. One problem with the 2006 525 or 530 (at least in the states) -- they have no dip stick. Idrive gives you the oil level.

I wouldn't rule out the possibility that eliminating the dipstick was at least in part to prevent DIY oil changes using an extractor. Wiley Bavarians. Game of chess between them and us.
