It was rust, finally, that did it in! Most of it was caused by the ice storm of 2008 when the car was immersed up to bottom of the door sills and I couldn't move the car because it became, literally. frozen in the parking space for 2 months. The brake and fuel lines started corroding after that, with the insueing leaks etc. Then the electricals started to give out, due to corrosion. The engine itself (M20) was rock solid and hadn't started to burn oil, although it did leak a little. Only major problem (twice) was the fuel pump at 93K kms and at 600K kms. Damn I miss that car!
Salut, Bob P.

So oil change done and after 10 ltrs of oil it's finely showed up to my delight. Looks like this engine needs quite a bit of oil...

Something is still off. On a 545i oil and filter change, the specified refill quantity of oil should be 8 liters or 8.5 quarts. Appears you are 2 liters overfilled. Did you check the dipstick tube to ensure it is properly seated in the oilpan?

Check your owners manual for the oil capacity.

What type of mechanic filled the engine without consulting the manual to determine the capacity? 10 litres is definitely too much - 2 litres too much. You need to take out 2 litres and definitely check the dipstick tube, it is probably out of its socket by a about 2-3 cms.

Yeah, 10 is too much.

But that doesn't explain the original problem - why you didn't see a level on the stick and why you didn't get an alarm?!!

it doesn't but ive had the car over a year with no issues was i driving on the edge? I can only monitor and hope that I was the case not that I should be. Btw no oil leaks
A small puff of smoke on acceleration on rare occasion.
But nothing major like tails of smoke and on idle.
