While looking at the forums, I noticed my top banner was showing a Midas advertisement where an oil and filter change is priced at $24.99.

On that note, has anyone taken there 5 for an oil change at a regular service station? Somewhere which is not BMW? I am guessing it had to be cheaper, but was it worth it? Did they do a good job?

DO NOT DO IT!!!!! Our cars use Synthetic Oil ONLY, and you will not get that for $25 - period. I would never go to one of those places anyway, you cannot guarantee they are using a true full synthetic when they change your oil. Most of the time they will put in whatever crap they have handy and charge you full synthetic price. Either do it yourself with full synthetic or go to the dealer and get OEM oil.

I've inquired before adn you definitely won't get one for $25. The $25 is based on 4 liters of regular non synthetic oil and regular filter, the place I ask didn't even have a oil filter for bmw.

I took my 530i to an Indy BMW shop and was charged $80. They did a very good job. By the way, the dealer wanted $250!

I go to Midas all the time but this is what I do:

1) Go to my BMW dealer and buy 8 qts (1qt is a spare for topping off later) of BMW Full synthetic 5W-30 with my BMWCCA 15% discount so it comes to about $6 ea. = $48
2) Buy the filter (comes with O ring) from the dealer also for = $10
3) Take the above items to Midas and they flush my oil and install my new oil/filter for $10 (labor).

Total oil change: $68

Sure beats the stealership, doesn't it?

Ditto. Except I use a local Brake Masters that I know and trust. Really good crew that treat me right. Can't say that for all of them, because I have tried a few.

I get mine done at my local BMW dealer, they charge about $90. I'd say it's worth the price for peace of mind to make sure it's done right. Plus, it's recorded along with your vehicle's service history. If you want to do it yourself, then that's a different story. Personally, I'd stay away from a place like Midas unless you bring them all the materials. Even then, some won't even work on the vehicle if it's not their in-stock oil, filter, or have the tools, etc.

I consider myself a DIY guy but my local BMW dealer is having a sale on oil change and it's only $ 79.99, tough to beat that deal and of course the peace of mind of knowing the good stuff is going into my car. I'm planning to schedule one soon even though my it's not time for an oil change yet.

For those who live up north near Pleasanton, check out East Bay BMW, go to their website and print out the oil change coupon.
