How long have you had the oil? If its a year tell them to change it, you can get a free oil change after 1 year even if you dont hit the recommended / count down milage... "Low Milage oil change". I plan on changing it out at about 2K after break in then once at 6K then wait for the dealer to do it at 10K then myself again at 17K then wait for the dealer again at 25K.
I dont drive that many miles a year so maybe I'll get lucky and I'll be able to hit the one year low milage oil change at the right time to save me the price of a oil change.

Guys
With modern oils is there really any need to change them more often than the maker recommends?
I had an Audi A6 2.5tdi which was only ever serviced when it was required i.e as per service intervals. I sold it to a friend with 242000 miles on the clock. He has done another 60000 and neither of us have ever had a problem with the engine. It does not use any oil between services which vary between 10-14000 miles according to the clock. It's still on the same clutch and gearbox!
So 300000 miles and no problems! Why do you need to change your oil more often? In 1994 when I purchased it oil technology was less advanced than it is today.
The car will fall apart before most of us reach 300K or ten times around the world!

Are you leasing or do you own? If you are leasing, don't worry about it. If you are buying, it isn't a terrible idea to cut the oil change intervals in half and do an extra one. With modern oils, it really isn't needed, though, but if you are keeping the car for a very long time, it couldn't hurt.

While it might not hurt (much) to change too frequently, there is evidence that you lose some of the protection. My previous 540 has now moved into the 100k mile range and my son says it uses no oil. It was always changed by the lights which went 15k plus or over a year. Neither was the oil that was used in the 1996 540 edition as good as the oil is today. I won't be changing oil until Mr. iDrive tells me it's time. Here is a source of info that I will post for the umpteenth time:

Either once every year or add in an extra oil change interval in between the schedule one is my plan. whichever comes first.

Usefull info! Maybe it's better to wait a little longer...and at about 10000 km change the filter and then maybe at 15000km change the oil.
