The maintenance changes your oil every 15k miles. Would it be overkill to change it yourself at 7k miles and than have dealer change it at 15k??

BMW will change your oil on an annual basis if you don't reach the indicated mileage. It's in the manual.

I change my oil twice a year. Before summer and before winter. I do it one time and BMW does it the next.

I do it on my car. Only $70, not bad.

I change mine every 5,000 miles and take it into BMW when my service light goes on (which hasn't happened yet on my E60).

Imo its not overkill, I change mine every 7,500 miles. I have been doing that on all of my BMW's and eveything turned out fine. Never used or burned any oil when breaking in like it states in the manual and doing the 7,500 mile thing. Good luck
cheers

The BMW CCA Tech guru Mike Miller has what he calls an old-fashioned maintenance schedule for modern bimmers. I can't lay my hands on the schedule at the moment (I think it can be found on the BMW CCA website), but generally it calls for much more frequent oil changes (every 5K), Xmn/Diff fluid changes (every 30,000 miles), and brake fluid drain, purge and refill about every 2 years (I think). Mike says that if you're not planning for longer-term ownership, then perhaps it's not necessary (I guess it depends on your conscience and concern for the next owner). As noted, I think his schedule (it's about four pages long) can be found on the BMW CCA site.

IMHO it's overkill if you are using the synthetic oil specified.

I wonder if I put Redline Oil at 7500 miles and than dealer puts Castrol at 15k, is it wacky.

According to service manual and BMW, it's overkill.
What is the objective to change twice as often ?

Well, according to Mike Miller, the recommend maintenance will have the car last 100k miles. With better care, it could go 200+
