Oh okay fair enough. Ill stick to just the oil change then. Im not sure how much oil to be putting in tho.. as i dont want to over fill it or under fill it

Im presuming perhaps LCI and PRE-LCI might need different amounts. and obviously different engine sizes ect will take different amounts

the amount i cited was for your specific vehicle, however, you should be checking your dipstick constantly while filling.

you are better off having too little oil than too much oil. dont over fill. keep in mind, it isnt precise, so you dont need to be exact, just pay attention to what you are doing and how much you are putting in, but dont stress. oil changes are a skill level 1 task

So is it 7.75 liters or 8.5 lol.. I cant beleave theres that much oil in there!!
One refill measurement may be w/o filter capacity measured. Many manufacturers do that ... e.g. Oil capacity 7.75liter... w/filter 8.5liter. Many times the filter canister will easily hold .5 liter+/-

You can but it wherever you like for now. Just read the container to confirm it meets BMW's minimum specs.

NJ Consumers PLEASE NOTE:

After November 2009 a NJ Oil Czar will be appointed and you will be able to purchase motor oil only from a Government Store. That way you will be GUARANTEED substandard and unpredictable quality at a price 200% above-market.

YOUR GOVERNMENT AT ....

OPPS ...
I was going to say WORK but that would be a misrepresentation !

Hi Mate,
I have a 535d now but my last car was a 530d and i done over 100,000 miles in that one. The oil is defo castrol edge turbo diesel 0 30 and it comes in 4 litres and just under 8 is about right cause my 535d now takes 8 and a little bit out of a 1 litre.
If you get this oil in halfords or the like its expensive cost you around ?80 for 8 litres. But i have been getting mine on ebay 8 litres for ?50! and its all sealed.

Now the particle filter is another story, this only needs changing every 2 oil changes. Its under the engine cover and its about 2 feet long and runs from front to back and its a pig to change. If i remember correctly it takes over an hour to change it. When my mechanic changed my one i gave him a hand and bmw were supposed to do the last one and they charged me something ridiculous. It looked like it had been in for 200,000 miles! and im sure they never changed it. How the car was still breathing was beyond me.

The 535d is much easier since you have two turbos the filter is at the front and its a 5 minute job so i change this with every oil change. Dont let them confuse you with this diesel particle filter cause its an air filter.

Good Luck

You are getting things mixed up!You are talking about an AIR FILTER.The diesel particulate filter,as others have shown,is part of the exhaust system.
On a new car, idrive shows replacement at 120,000 miles for the diesel particulate filter.
