Either there is not much on this...or I'm not using search correctly. Either, I want to change my oil in between the "BMW scheduled" intervals. I have the tools, filter, etc. but need to know how much oil to put back in. The manual doesn't give this data...that I could find. You would think after 100 years of making cars, that someone would have come up a way to check oil level...like maybe a stick or something that dips into the engine...now THAT be useful

Also, the book says you can use 5W30 or 10W40 in all climates. I plan to use Mobil One 5W30 Synthetic...I think the thinner viscosity would get a bit bettr mileage. Do you guys choose 5W30 or 10W40 based on your climate or what? I live in Alabama so I don't serious extreme temperatures. Comments?

I'll let others chime in with comments about viscosity but once you determine that, you'll need 6.5 liters.

BTW, putting the terms 535i oil capacity into the Google search box at the top of the page yielded only two individual threads and one of them contained the following post:

6.5 Liters = 6.868473361311859 Quarts

Alabama sounds hot; if you drive fast or aggressively you may want to consider 10W40. I know Mobile was around since the 1970's but I think Castrol Syntec is what BMW recommends. Each oil company adds different additives.

I started a thread on changing oil during break-in and posted this - which I found useul: http://forums.e60.net/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=525893

I have been using Mobil 1 for more than 20 years in my cars and motorcycles. It worked where other oils failed - particularly under higher heat conditions. I too used M1 5w30 in previous cars (non BMW), but its the 0w40 that meets BMW certifications. So for me it will be 0w40 juice.
