Well I put my car up for sale and someone was here today to have a look at it, he opened the hood and switched on the engine, and after a minute he noticed that there was smoke comming from the lid where you fill up the oil. Is this normal? Or should I be worried? Its a 525 Diesel from 09/2004

What can I say? I mean, oil burning at the cap makes sense. What if it was just random burn-off? If you got oil burning from someplace OTHER than there I'd worry. Otherwise a little burn-off right there might just be residue when oil was added. Make sure the cap is tight and move on, etc.

not sure about deisel but white smoke is normal...oil heating up and it recirculate via pcv valve onto the intake but colored smoke might be a valve seal issue and combustion is seeping through.

My Ride: 2004 BMW 530i - no mods. Pretty basic really. I mean it has tires, windows, and a sweet look, what more could a man want? Honestly, I'd like to improve the sound system mildly, and possibly find a worthy engine mod that would increase my BHP by 100 without giving an arm and a leg for. I don't think it's out there, so I'll stay stock and love driving my 530i.

I agree, if there's smoke coming from around the cap then it's most likely burn off from the last oil job. Happens, esp if you don't use a funnel and try to free pour oil into the engine.
