When we took delivery of our car the odometer showed 3 miles and the trip-meter beside it showed 5.7 miles. Is this normal?
Edit: By normal I mean for the trip to show more miles than the odo.

That's odd. I can't imagine why that would be. I didn't check my trip odometer at delivery.
Consider yourself lucky, my car was delivered with 14 miles! I was really upset. That means someone was joy riding in my car for more than 20 minutes. The dealer claimed it got tagged for a customs inspection at or before the VPC. I don't believe them for one minute. I almost didn't take the car because of it, but I couldn't wait any longer for the car.

Yes, that was the same on my car, if I recall it was 5 on the odo and 7 on the trip. It has been discussed before and many have reported the same situation. Must be normal.

Back in the analog odometer days, brand new ones would sometimes come set at 999,997 or something "less than zero".
I'll bet the new odometers come with the equivalent of negative 1 or 2 so that might explain the discrepancy between the main odo and the trip odo...

they could concevieably set the "designated test-drive" cars to -50 or -100 and could tell people, you are the FIRST to take this car out for a spin...................................

I think that's why they did it. Everyone wants to see a low number on the odo but the manufacturer needs to test the car so they don't "count" all the test miles.
If they delivered the car with 0 miles, the customer might think the car wasn't tested at all, I guess.
